Wrapping up 2011, earlier this Holiday season, a select group of kids from Next Up  Foundation had the very special privilege of skating at The Berrics skatepark in Los Angeles! This exclusive, private park is a dream destination of any skater, and the kids at Next Up were very happy to have to chance to go there. Santa Claus also made a guest appearance to skate, hand out some presents, and spread Christmas cheer throughout the session. Everyone had fun skating and was honored just to be there. A huge thanks to Steve Berra, Kevin Fernley from the Berrics, and also Josh Friedberg for filming our session! Happy New Year everyone!

On December 14th, The kids at Next Up Foundation were treated to a special Christmas party, where Santa Claus himself made a special appearance to hand out presents! Everyone that showed up got a present, and several Hurley backpacks full of prizes were raffled away, as well a $100 gift card to the Hurley store in Costa Mesa. Laventina’s also provided pizza and drinks for everyone, and it was a great day of Skateboarding, good food, and lots of prizes! Thanks to Lucy Luison at Hurley, LRG, Vans, Blind,Volcom, DVS, Richard Farris&Dana-Beth, and Laventinas for providing all the food and Happy Holidays from Next Up!

Next Up Foundation was recently given a donation of 10 complete skateboards from Board Rescue, a non-profit organization that supplies other organizations like Next Up with boards, helmets and pads to help reach children in low-income areas. Their donation could not have come at a better time for Next Up as we are low on supplies for our skaters! We would like to extend a huge thank you to Board Rescue for their help, and we encourage you to check them out as well and support their great cause at boardrescue.org

Next Up Foundation was recently featured in a news article on the front page of THE SKATEBOARD MAG’s website. THE SKATEBOARD MAG is one of the biggest magazines in the skate industry and it is a huge honor to be featured on their site. Big thanks to J. Earlier this summer, Amateur skaters Felipe Gustavo and Gustavo Malagoli came out one afternoon to skate and hang out at Next Up. They both had a fun session with the kids and even though it was a very hot day in Anaheim they both still came through with some amazing skating! It was a great day all around despite the heat everyone stayed positive and had a fun time hanging out. A big thanks to both Gustavo and Felipe for coming out and supporting the cause!

Earlier during the summer, Next Up had Brazilian Pro Skater Giancarlo Naccarato come out for a session with the kids. While not as well-known here in the U.S. as in Brazil, Gian is an incredibly talented skater who has been supporting the Brazilian skate scene for years. He put on an amazing show for the kids with his huge pop and impressive switch skills. A big thanks to Gian for coming out, and we hope to see more of him here in the near future!

Earlier this summer, Next Up had the pleasure of having three amazing professional skaters come visit the program. Rodrigo TX and Adelmo Jr. came with Brazilian pro Rodrigo Leal to skate and hang out with the kids. All three Pros skated and did some great back-to-back tricks which made for a very fun session. The kids had a great time seeing some legendary skaters and some amazing skating. Special thanks to Adelmo and both the Rodrigo’s for coming out and showing their support!

Costa Mesa, CA.- On October 13, 2011 FIND Art Gallery will be hosting the book release of Brazilian Skateboard Photographer, Heverton Ribeiro. Heverton Ribeiro will generously donate a portion of the proceeds from his book to Next Up Foundation.

FIND will be hosting the book release of Heverton Ribeiro on October 13, 2011 from 7pm-12am at the FIND art Gallery located in Costa Mesa 1640 Superior Ave 92627.  Along with a gallery show and book signing there will be food served by Laventina’s Pizza, wine, and in honor of Heverton Ribeiro, Brazilian cocktails!

At the age of 10, Heverton Ribeiro fell in love with skateboarding. It can be seen, since 2001, on the covers and pages of his first job, Tribo Skateboard Magazine, and in American magazines, such as Skateboarder, The Skateboard Mag, Transworld and Thrasher. Heverton spends most of his time on the road, traveling around the world, doing what he loves. Next Up Foundation’s purpose is to help kids reach their full potential, inspiring them to lead healthy and successful lives while providing habit forming exercise activities and social interaction through the sport of skateboarding.

On Sept. 24,th PeopleTree hosted a benefit party for Next Up Foundation. The idea was to raise as much money as possible and donate 100% of the proceeds to Next Up. The event was divided in two phases. The first phase was from 1p.m. to 6p.m. at the Volcom warehouse (skate park) in Costa Mesa,CA. It was a fun, family oriented atmosphere with skateboarding, live music, appearances by pro-skaters as well as free drinks and food provided by Chronic Tacos and Laventinas Big Cheese Pizza

The second phase was held at Location 1980 in Costa Mesa for a 21+ crowd. Local bands Old Scratch and Snakebit Drifters performed at the event and Chronic Tacos catered to the crowd. Kevin Yoches, drummer of both local band Snakebit Drifters and Old Scratch, said, “It’s an honor to be a part of something so much bigger,” well said Kevin, well said.

DAYTIME: An Event from 1-6pm at Volcom Skate Park (1660 Placentia Ave, Costa Mesa, 92627).  It will be a fun, Family-Oriented atmosphere with Skateboarding, Door & Raffle prizes and more!  Live entertainment will be provided by Reggae Band Ancestree.  Also featuring appearances by Pro-Skaters and includes free food and drinks.

IN ORDER TO USE THE SKATE PARK EVERYONE NEEDS TO SIGN AN WAIVER! UNDER AGES NEED PARENTS OR GUARDIAN SIGNATURE!!

EVENING: 7-Midnight at Location 1980 (1980 Placentia Ave,Costa Mesa, 92627); Ages 21 and Up only.  Features live music and adult libations, as well as Door Prizes and a Silent Auction.
